Personal Details
Hi! I am an artisan from Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, and I make woolen carpets. I have done my master’s in arts from IGNOU.
Woolen Carpets Making Skills
My father was a carpet craftsman, and I grew up watching him make carpets of various designs. After completing my studies, I worked with him in making and selling carpets. My whole family is involved in making these woolen carpets, and I have four permanent craftsmen who work with me.
I use different threads like silk, woolen, and acrylic to make carpets. I make 6 ply carpets which are more durable. I can make carpets of any design as per the requirement of my clients.
Woolen Carpets Making Process
I use cotton fabric for the back or base of my carpets. This fabric is available locally. After that, a solution of latex, fevicol, water, and other adhesives is applied to harden the fabric, then the design is printed with the help of maps, and the wool is inserted with the help of some basic tools.
Benefits
I use the finest materials in my carpets. My 6 ply handmade woolen carpets are highly durable with exquisite finishing.
Experience
I have 6 years of experience in this craft.
Participation in Exhibitions
I have exhibited my products in many exhibitions across the country. Some of them are India International Trade Fair (Pragati Maidan, New Delhi), International Gita Mahotsav (Kurukshetra, Haryana), India International Mega Trade Fair (Kolkata, West Bengal), and Gandhi Shilp Bazaar (Gurugram, Haryana). My carpets were highly appreciated in the exhibitions.
Training Programmes Conducted
Although I have not given any official training, but some artisans of Bhadohi have learned this art from me.
Future Plans
Till now I have sold my carpets in India only. But now I want to sell them abroad also.
