Wooden Showpieces, Partitions & Boxes Made by an Artisan from South West Delhi, Delhi
Personal Details
Hi! I am an artisan/manufacturer of wooden showpieces and partitions. I was born in Gurdaspur, Punjab.
Woodware Crafting Skills
My grandfather and father used to make ivory products. But ivory was banned in the 90s so they started making the same products using sandalwood. But selling sandalwood products was also not very easy as they were expensive.
By the time I grew up, I had acquired a good knowledge of sandalwood craft from them. I came to Delhi and improved my skills under my Guruji Shri Baburam and started using other woods as well.
Woodware Craft Process
I use loquat, ebony, sandalwood, and mahogany wood to make my products. These woods are bought from the local markets of Delhi. I draw designs on them with a pencil and then the carving is done using some basic tools.
Benefits
Wooden showpieces and partitions are completely handmade and unique.
Specialization
With so much experience I have acquired the ability to create any design and my clients are also completely satisfied with my work. But I love making rose designs the most.
Experience
I have 45 years of experience in this field.
Participation in Exhibitions
I have participated in Surajkund International Crafts Mela (Faridabad) and India Expo Mart (Noida).
Awards
I was awarded National Merit Award in 2018 and State Award in 2020.
Training Programmes Conducted
I have trained many of my relatives in woodware craft and now they too are earning well from it.
Future Plans
Although I am 68 years old, I have not stopped making wooden crafts because it is my passion. I enjoy making crafts. So in the future also, I want to make different wooden items.
