Hi! I am S Precilla, a textile weaver. I was born on July 10, 1986, in Chingai, in Ukhrul district of Manipur. I have learned textile weaving from my mother.
Traditionally, loin looms were used in Manipur but in the 20th century, fly shuttle looms were also introduced. Now both looms are used by women weavers to make fabric in Manipur. In Manipur, weaving is done as part of the daily work of women and is done in almost every household.
My sister is a fashion designer and she makes dresses from handloom fabrics. I also wanted to do something in my life, so I joined her because she already had 10 to 15 years of experience in this field. She helped me a lot. Now I weave cotton and silk fabrics and make clothes and other products with that fabric.
I use loin loom to make cushion covers, table mats, and shawls, and use the shuttle loom to make cotton and silk dresses.
I have participated in exhibitions organized by Tribes India, such as Aadi Mahotsav in Mussoorie, Bhopal, Lucknow, Pondicherry, and Hyderabad.
