Terracotta and Pottery by Artisan Prem Chand from Haryana, India
Hi! I am Prem Chand, a Terracotta Pottery artist. I was born on November 12, 1975, in Faridabad, Haryana. My father’s name is Shri Bihari Lal. I am educated up to class 12. Terracotta pottery is our ancestral art. I have learned it from my grandfather.
Terracotta pots are made using a mixture of sand and clay. Pottery wheel and Jigger Jolly machine are also used to make this craft. In ancient times, only water storage utensils were made, but nowadays many things are made.
I make all kinds of earthenware. These earthenwares are very beneficial for our health as they are non-toxic and contain 40% water and minerals. My expertise is in making kadhai of any size.
I have regularly participated in Surajkund International Crafts Mela in Faridabad and Taj Mahotsav in Agra.
I also taught this art to my relatives, who were previously working as a laborer. They are now living a good life.
