Personal Details
Hi! I am a pashmina shawls weaver/manufacturer, and Sozni embroidery artisan. I was born in Srinagar, Kashmir. My father was also a weaver.
Sozni Embroidery & Pashmina Shawls Weaving Skills
Sozni embroidery and pashmina shawl weaving are our ancestral art. I learned them from my father at a very young age. My ancestors used to weave pashmina shawls and later used to embroider them with sozni.
Sozni Embroidery & Pashmina Shawls Weaving Process
I weave myself and sometimes buy pashmina shawls from local weavers and embroider them.
To weave the shawl, I buy pure pashmina yarn from the local market, dye it with artificial colors and then weave the shawl. Once the weaving of the shawl is complete, I decide on the design for embroidery. Then I do sozni embroidery on the woven shawls.
I use silk, cotton, and wool threads for embroidery. It takes at least 1 month to make a simple embroidered shawl. In some cases, this can take up to 5 years, depending on the design.
