Madhubani Painting by Artisan Uttam Prasad Paswan from Bihar, India (National Awardee)
Hi, I am Uttam Prasad Paswan, a Madhubani painting artist. I was born on 13 March 1968 in a village called Jitwarpur, District Madhubani, Bihar. My father’s name is Late Chulhai Paswan.
I have learned this creative art from my mother Late Jugeshwari Devi Sikha. She used to do this art with her hands on the walls with the help of Geru and Chuna. She used to draw elephants, horses, peacocks, fish, etc. At that time I was 12 years old and undertaking my education. I stood first in my class and enjoyed the arts.
My mother died in 1980. Due to poverty and pressure of family responsibilities, I failed in my 10th exams and thus could not complete my education.
But still, I am skilled in Madhubani Art. Mithila, Godhana Painting and King Sailesh stories are accurately portrayed in my paintings.
I was honored with the State Award in 1986 – 87 and Sita Devi Award in 2013. I was honored with the National Award in 2014. I have also exhibited my creative work in many national exhibitions.
Many people from various parts of the world like Japan, America, England, Germany, France, etc. have visited our village for the best Madhubani Paintings.
In Godhna Painting, 200 skilled artisans are working. They all are living their lives doing this creative art only.
