Hi! I am Ahsan Mirza, a Kashmiri kashida embroidery artist.
I have learned Kashmiri kashida embroidery from my maternal uncle since childhood. He was the master of this craft.
I buy old royal shawls from various markets in Delhi, Kashmir, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh and do rafoo work on them and then do embroidery on them. I use various threads such as silk, wool, pashmina, and cotton for kashida embroidery on these shawls. I also decorate Pashmina and Jamawar shawls using my kashida embroidery skills. I buy these shawls from Kashmir, Amritsar, and Najibabad.
It has been many years since I have been making Kashmiri kashida embroidery and rafoo shawls, but still, I love cotton yarn embroidery the most and I am an expert at doing it.
I have 65 years of experience in this field.
Participation in Exhibitions
I have participated in exhibitions in various cities of India like Dehradun, Delhi, Noida, Agra, etc.
Although I am a very experienced artist in the field of Kashmiri kashida embroidery and rafoo work, I never tried for any award. The biggest award of my life is that I have trained many artists in kashida embroidery and now they are earning well and leading a better life.
Training Programmes Conducted
I have trained many artists. About 60 to 70 artisans trained by me have settled in different cities of India.
In the future, I want more and more people to learn this art and make a career in this field.
