Decoupage Craft by Su-Studio811 from Karnataka, India
Su-Studio811 Introduction
Hello, I’m Susy Matthew, the founder of Su-Studio811. The Su-Studio811 was launched at my dressing table in 2019. Later in January 2020, I converted my garage into a proper studio for decoupage craftwork. I have completed my graduation in Architecture. I have also learned classical piano from the Royal School of Music, London. Apart from teaching music, I have also written two books.
Motive
The motive behind the creation of the Su-Studio811 is to satisfy the desire to do something unusually creative.
Creating something new is as important as breathing. It really makes me very happy when Su-Studio811 products are appreciated and liked by customers.
Decoupage Craft Making Skills
Once, I traveled to Slovenia to spend a week with a ceramic artist and found pleasure working with my fingers and creating 3-dimensional pieces of art. My access to the ceramic clay and baking kiln was limited, but my restlessness led me to explore the decoupage craft, and I fell in love with this form of art. Experimenting with glass, wood, fabric, and metal opened up a new world for me.
I also found that decoupage helped to give utility items a new avatar that would have otherwise been dumped in landfills, so in a way, I feel like I’m contributing to the environment as well.
I started with converting all the organizers of my dressing table into decoupage products. Later I also did a basic course in decoupage art in Delhi. Then I developed my own technique of decoupage art by watching videos.
Decoupage Craft Process
1) Apply primer coat (gesso/acrylic).
2) Apply mod podge/fabric glue.
3) Spread tissue/paper.
4) Apply sealer coat (mod podge).
5) Paint in the background.
6) Add embellishments.
7) Seal with varnish.
Specialization
My expertise is in making all types of decoupage products. I can also customize decoupage products. I do not make similar designs on products and hence the exclusivity of the products remains.
Experience
I have over a year of experience in this field.
Participation in Exhibitions
I have participated in the Flea market at Alliance Francaise, Bangalore (2019), Christmas Bazaar, 1st Assembly of Zion Church, Bangalore (2019, 2020), and Indian Craft Collective (Jan 2021).
Future Plans
I want to expand my business of making and selling decoupage products. In the future, I also want to hire and train some women artisans in decoupage craft.
