Chikankari Embroidery by Artisan Shariq Khan from Delhi, India
Hi! I am Shariq Khan, a Chikankari embroidery artisan. Chikan embroidery is our traditional work and I have learned it from my mother and elder brother.
Chikan embroidery is done on different fabrics such as cotton, georgette, chiffon, rayon, etc. Cotton thread is used to do embroidery work. Embroidery work is of many types such as Gota Patti work with chikan embroidery, Ghas Patti work, Backstitch, Chain stitch, Mukaish, Sequin, Bead and Mirror work with chikan embroidery. I have expertise in Murri and Shadow embroidery with zari work. I have also trained many students in Lucknow and Delhi.
I have exhibited my products in Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath in Bangalore, Shilparamam in Hyderabad, Kala Ghoda Arts Festival in Mumbai, Surajkund International Crafts Mela in Faridabad, India International Trade Fair in New Delhi and Bhopal Haat in Bhopal. Since 2013 I have been participating in various exhibitions organized by SARAS. In 2015-16, I went to Singapore and Malaysia to participate in the exhibition named Zak Salaam India Expo. I want to promote and sell my products not only in India but also abroad.
