Hi! I am Khatri Iqbal, Ajrakh Hand Block Printing Artist. My father’s name is Husen Khatri and he was a hand embroidery artist in Kutch.
Ajrakh Hand Block Printing Skills
My father used to go to Ahmedabad to sell his hand embroidery products to resellers. They suggested him to make Ajrakh hand block printing products as they are very much in demand by the customers, so I decided to learn it. I learned this art from my elder cousin and friend, who live in Kutch.
Ajrakh Hand Block Printing Process
I use all-natural products like natural dye, limestone, turmeric, jaggery, iron-rust, etc. to make my products. Sometimes I also use naphthol-dyes. I use wooden blocks to create new patterns on my products.
My expertise is in making various patterned modal silk sarees.
I have 20 years of experience in this field.
Participation in Exhibitions
I have participated in Dilli Haat in New Delhi. I have exhibited my products in some private exhibitions in various cities like Mumbai, Surat, Pune, Gandhinagar, and Kolkata. I am a regular participant in the Garvi Gujrari exhibition. I have also participated in the India International Trade Fair, New Delhi.
Training Programmes Conducted
Although I have not trained anyone, tourists from different countries come to see and understand the process of Ajrakh hand block printing.
I want more development of my art and want more growth in its demand. I am also doing some experiments to create new shades and patterns for my upcoming products.
